Lettering Policy
Students must earn 50 points in order to letter In band or color guard. The criteria for earning points Is listed below, as well as the form to fill out. Wind and percussion students should get their forms signed by Ms. Grems, and Guard students should get their forms signed by Ms. Pustejovsky. Letter jackets will NOT be approved to order unless a form has been turned In BEFORE the fitting takes place.
24-25 Letter Jacket Fitting Days
September 17, 2024 from 4pm - 5pm
March 19, 2025 during lunches
Students forfeit the right to earning a letter jacket through band or guard after quitting their respective program.
Winds & Percussion
8 Points (THIS SECTION IS CUMULATIVE – 8 points per SEMESTER of participation)
One complete SEMESTER of successful participation in either marching band or concert band. (If a student becomes ineligible and cannot participate in UIL Marching Contest or UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contest, the student will forfeit the 8 points allotted for that semester.)
15 Points (Cumulative) The student may earn multiple points in this category.
Selection into and performance with the TMEA 9th grade All Region Band
Selection into and performance with the TMEA All Region Band
Selection into and performance with the TMEA All Region Jazz Band
Certification for TMEA Area (must audition)
Selection into and performance with the TMEA All State Band
10 Points (Cumulative) The student may earn multiple points in this category.
Performance of a solo at the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest earning a Superior (1) rating
Performance of an ensemble at the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest earning a Superior (1) rating
Performance of an ensemble at the BISD Chamber Ensemble Contest or UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest and earning a Superior (1) rating (cannot receive double points from UIL & BISD Contest for same ensemble)
Performance of a solo at the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest and earning a Superior (1) rating
Performance of an ensemble at the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest and earning a Superior (1) rating
Performance of a solo at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble and earning a Outstanding Soloist Award
5 Points (Cumulative) The student may earn multiple points in this category.
Performance of a solo at the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest earning an Excellent (2) rating
Performance of a solo at the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest earning an Excellent (2) rating
Performance of an ensemble at the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest earning an Excellent (2) rating
Summer Band or Spring Banquet Band Awards

5 points per YEAR for Leadership (officers and council)
3 point per YEAR for band service (pending director approval)
Color Guard
8 Points (THIS SECTION IS CUMULATIVE – 8 points per SEMESTER of participation.)
One complete SEMESTER of successful participation in either summer/marching band or winter guard. (If a student becomes ineligible and cannot participate in UIL Marching Contest or TCGC/WGI season, the student will forfeit the 8 points allotted for that semester.)
15 Points (Non-Cumulative) The student may earn multiple points in this category.
Performance of a solo at TCGC or WGI Solo and Ensemble, or BISD winter show
Performance of a solo at a spring solo/ensemble competition
10 Points (Non-Cumulative) The student may earn multiple points in this category.
